Taught M.Phil. Programmes

TCD

Taught M.Phil. programmes are an opportunity to study a subject in depth and to develop research and communication skills. These programmes can be studied full-time over one year, or part-time over two years. For some students the M.Phil. is a preparation for a career outside academia, for others it provides a foundation for doctoral study. The M.Phil. programmes in the School of Histories and Humanities attract students from all over the world as well as graduates from Irish universities.

Entry Requirements

Students will normally have at least a 2.1 at BA level or a GPA of 3.3 in a relevant subject. Potential students complete an online application form. The application allows students to comment on their reason for choosing the programme and their experience to date. Applicants supply an academic transcript and details of two referees. Where appropriate they may also be asked to supply a sample of written work or attend an interview.

Career Paths

An M.Phil. can be a preparation for doctoral study, but our graduates go on to a much wider range of careers. Our students have become teachers, librarians, curators, lawyers, public servants, and some work in business and the service industries.
